The NNNP was formerly known as the Northern Negros Forest Reserve (NNFR) which was established in 1935 through Proclamation No. 798 signed by then Acting Governor General Joseph R. Hayden.

It was declared as a protected area through Presidential Proclamation No. 895 signed by former President Gloria M. Arroyo in August 15, 2005 pursuant to Republic Act 7586 or the NIPAS Act of 1992 – AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF NATIONAL INTEGRATED PROTECTED AREAS SYSTEM, DEFINING ITS SCOPE AND COVERAGE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

On June 22, 2018, President Rodrigo R. Duterte signed R.A. No.11038 of 2018 Known as Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System or ENIPAS Act of 2018 which declares Protected Areas and Providing for Their Management, Amending for This Purpose Republic Act No. 7586, Otherwise Known as the “National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) Act of 1992” and for Other Purposes (Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, 2017).

The NNNP is home to rich flora and fauna. Among them include sixty-seven (67) endemic species of amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals that have been documented to occur within NNNP. This includes threatened species that are endemic to the Negros-Panay biogeographic region, such as the Walden’s hornbill (Aceros waldeni), White-winged cuckoo Shrike (Coracina ostenta), Visayan Flowerpecker (Dicaeum austral), Flame-templed Babbler (Stachyris speciosa), the Negros Bleeding Heart (Gallicolumba keay) among others.

Furthermore, it also home to two Negros-Panay endemic species of large mammals, the critically endangered Visayan Warty Pig (Sus cebifrons) and the endangered Philippine Spotted Deer  (Rusa alfredi).

This rich biodiversity in the NNNP is proof that it needs to be protected. As these organisms are threatened, it is our duty as citizens to protect the environment which provides for us the ecosystem services that are essential for our survival.

Check these apps!

New apps are developed almost everyday. New innovations are created and the nukber of apps are increasing exponentialy. Amongst thousands of apps, here’s what I like the most:

For audio streaming, I think nothing beats Spotify! With its affordable rates and offline and download feature, it is worth the price! Spotify allows the user to download singles, albums, and even playlists that you can play when you are offline.

For my lifestyle app, I usually use GCash.

GCash is originally an app developed by Globe Telecom for its users to become a platform for financial transactions. As time passed by, Globe made GCash available for users of all networks. And now, GCash is not only an app, users may also opt to have a physical debit card delivered at their doorstep.

One of the best features of GCash is its accessibility. Without requiring users to have physical cards, users can pay by scanning a seller’s QR Code. But the best part of it is that it’s available even in Public Markets! A certain example is in Bacolod City. Some sidewalk vendors, fruit vendors, and carenderias have the option to let their customers pay using GCash.

Another useful function of GCash is the uncomplicated procedures of cashing in. With one simple click, users can easily transfer cash to and from their GCash Account.

All-in-all, I personally find GCash very helpful in our every day transaction which also lessen the hassles we encounter everyday.

You’ll never know if you’ll never try.

For gaming, one of the apps I use is Godus.

Godus is an app which allows you to literally “mold” your own world. In this game, you have the ability to control the landscape and lead your people to create and develop a civiliziation. This game tickles your creativity in finding possible solutions to different tasks by slightly changing the environment.

These apps are only 3 out of thousands. There are still new, undiscovered apps that may be even more better than what I have mentioned, but there fate is held by the future.

Public USB Charging Stations – Safe or Not?

Due to the influx of the development in technology, gadgets are constantly changing. We have to a point where phones are now necessities in our everyday lives. We use it in communicating. We use it to plan our daily tasks. We even use it to for banking and for paying and receiving money. It has become, somehow, a part of us. Thus, requiring us to frequently charge our phones in order to utilize it.

There are a lot of solutions for that problem. Some buy extra battery packs for phones that can have removable battery packs. Others buy power banks and even buy solar charged power banks. However, some also opts to use Public USB Charging Stations.

USB Charging Stations are found everywhere. From malls, to ports, parks, and even in convenience stores, and it’s cheap. For a 1 Philippine Peso, you can already charge your phone for 5 minutes. On the contrary, it’s advantages is nullified by certain threats.

Some Public USB Charging Stations have the ability to gather data from it’s users; including photos, contacts, and the like. This imposes a great threat to it’s users.

In order to ensure that this does not happen, we must make use to use a data cable that only charges your phone and does not allow for data transmission. Also, make sure that your phone notifies you whenever your phone is connected to a computer and a notification will appear if you will allow it to access your data.

Personally, I wouldn’t use Public USB Charging Ports. There are more viable options, such as the power bank. Power banks are not only safe for accidental data transmission but it is also portable, which means you can take it whenever you travel. However, in the case that I have no power bank, I would personally make sure that the Public USB Charging Ports that I will be using does not allow for data transmission.

The Way of the Fist and the Foot

An inforgraphic about olympic taekwondo.

Taekwondo is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, that teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind. Today, it has become a global sport that has gained an international reputation, and stands among the official games in the Olympics.

Let’s take a closer look at the meaning of the word “Tae” “Kwon” “Do.” It is composed of three parts as shown in the English spelling, though it is one word in Korean. “Tae” means “foot,” “leg,” or “to step on”; “Kwon” means “fist,” or “fight”; and “Do” means the “way” or “discipline.” If we put these three parts together, we can see two important concepts behind “Tae Kwon Do”.

First, Taekwondo is the right way of using Tae and Kwon ‘fists and feet,’ or all the parts of the body that are represented by fists and feet. Second, it is a way to control or calm down fights and keep the peace. This concept comes from the meaning of Tae Kwon ‘to put fists under control’ [or ‘to step on fists’]. Thus Taekwondo means “the right way of using all parts of the body to stop fights and help to build a better and more peaceful world.”

Technology and Me?

What is technology? Is it our phones and laptops? Or is it the Air Pods we see teens wearing frequently?

Technology is around us. From the wheels in the cars, to levers in machineries, or cogs in systems, light emitting diodes in breadboards, or even in our watches. Technology evolves as time progresses. We utilize this in almost everything we do. Including in writing this blog! I couldn’t write this blog without the help of the internet, my laptop, and of course the server which wordpress runs upon.

Technology is evolving exponentially! Let’s take into consideration something we use almost always; the internet. What we are using right now is called the Internet of People where people are connected to different sites through different servers which connect to the internet or to the cloud. However, we will soon use what we call the Internet of Things or the IoT. Just like in the IoP, the IoT can also be connected to a server, but it does not connect people, rather, it connect things! To put it in a much more simple way, you can now connect your smartphone to your television, to your refrigerator, and even to your room lights. But, technology does not end there. Technology can also be found in our food. Technology is used in creating GMOs or Genetically Modified Organisms. Technology is also used in business, in monitoring the stock market or even computing for your financial statements.

In other words, technology is limitless and it is everywhere around you. Take a look.
